Verbier luxury chalets offers skiing and snowboarding in one of the top five ski destinations in Europe. Verbier is therefore a ski resort that every skier and snowboarder should visit at least once as it combines world class skiing with a picturesque ski village with traditionally styled luxury ski chalets hugging the mountain side.
Set in the Valais region of Switzerland, it offers outstanding skiing for intermediates and advanced skiers both on and off-piste. Young family ski members are also well catered for in the Savoleyres area with its gentle beginners slope and travelator.
Known as the 4Vallees, whilst most the skiing takes place in and around Mont Gele, Atelas and under Mont Fort, you can also ski across the other three valleys to Les Masses and back which will keep most skiers busy for the day.
Verbier is a very energetic, atmospheric and charming ski resort with its alpine wooden luxury chalets and and an entertaining village centre. The main Medran lifts are situated just 100m above the main centre, and as a consequence the atmoshphere around Verbier thrives throughout day and night, making Verbier we think one of the best party towns in the Alps.
There are good variety of restaurants and a select number of shops too.
Family Skiing Verbier
Competent teenagers and family ski groups with mixed ability intermediates and experts are particularly well catered for in Verbier with its variety of red and black runs that will keep them vertically and physically challenged throughout the week.
There is an excellent crèche close to the Savoleyres area and beginners are well catered here too with its gentle piste, travelator and button lift.
Expert and Off-Piste Skiing and Snowboarding
Its status as one of Europe’s top five ski resorts is well founded with its challenging off-piste and itinerary runs. Extreme skiers can be found taking the runs off the back of the Mont Fort although most skiers instead turn back towards Verbier and enjoy the moguls under Mont Fort, before taking a right and following the itinerary route all the way down Tortin. The latter is one of the most spectacular off-piste itinerary ski runs we have had the pleasure of skiing and is highly recommended in good conditions.
Similarly when conditions are good the Col des Mines is a good place to head for competent off-piste skiers, as is the Vallon d’Arby. For a days skiing some will start at Mont Fort and Tortin and afterwards on to the Greppon Blanc which the Verbier 4Vallees although skiers should note that the Greppon Blanc ends at a road where you will need to take a bus to Les Masses before skiing back across and into Verbier.
Eating Out On The Mountain
One of our favourites is Chez Dany on the run home from Les Ruinettes to Verbier in the tiny hamlet of Clambin. Despite being tucked away its reputation precedes it and advanced bookings are recommended. For competent skiers La Malenaz above Savoleyres is well worth the effort but it can only be accessed off-piste or a walk up and if skiing, check conditions first before skiing down the Marlenaz run.
Alternatively and more easy to find is Chalet Carlsberg that despite the slightly ‘fast food and beer’ name actually serves good fayre throughout the day, right in the middle of the Attelas ski area (very busy peak weeks as a consequence). La Chotte des Grand Plans is a nice traditional mountain restaurant in the Savoleyres area and also worth a mention. If heading across towards La Tzoumaz then Chez Simon is worth stopping at. A small but tasty menu ensures the food is always freshly prepared and tastes great but bookings again recommended.
Ecole Suisse de Ski are the established and highly respected local ski school that has operated for decades in Verbier. European Snowsports offer a popular and alternative ski and snowboard option with lessons with English speaking instructors. Ecole Suisse de Ski. Other ski schools in Verbier include Altitude, Adrenalin and Performance.
We think Verbier has some of the best après-ski in Europe and probably the world. The ski runs home funnel skiers back to the Medran ski lift and from there on it is bar to bar until dinner at your chose ski chalet holiday accommodation!
Plenty of choice in terms of restaurants in Verbier depending on budget. Once again Chez Dany above Verbier is worth a mention as you can take the Ski Yeti Taxi up and toboggan down. If you haven’t visited La Marlanez above Savoleyres during the day then a night time visit is also well worth the time, again via Snow Yeti Taxi. In Verbier itself, La Channe in Verbier offers all your traditional alpine classics very well but for traditional dishes with a fine twist, try the Cordée des Alpes. For a fine dining experience there is the Nevai Restaurant with its cool and swarve interior.and for fine dining La Table d'Adrien is definitely worth booking a table for.
The legendary Casbah needs few introductions and many a visitor to Verbier has missed first lifts due to its late night attraction and party scene. Likewise the Farm Club that has entertained visitors in style for four decades.
Getting Around The Resort
There is a good bus service in and around Verbier that runs regularly and as alsways in Switzerland, to time. Most chalets are located quite close to the main lifts, typically 10 minutes walk, but one or two can be further out. These are always close however to a bus stop.
Paragliging tandem is a great thing to do in Verbier as you take off high above the village in spectacular scenery with great views of the Valais Valley below.
Verbier also has an excellent Sports Centre with an indoor pool, squash courts, wellness facilities (including gymnasium), and ice skating. Husky sleigh rides, toboganning and snowshoeing are also available. For the well heeled, there is also the option of taking helicopter flights and heli-skiing too.
