Luxury skiing holidays in Wengen (situated in the Jungfrau region) offers a ski experience skiing in the place many consider to be the birthplace of ski tourism. Wenger is part of the Jungfrau ski region and boasts 328km so there is plenty to ski and see in this pretty ski region. The ski are immediately above Wengen itself boasts 112km of pistes with 17 of the 32 runs in the Wengen area maked as red and is an intermediates playground. This is reflected across the whole Jungfrau ski region which includes the other famous ski resorts of Murren and Grindelwald, all situated underneath the world famous and awe inspiring Eiger mountain. Whilst pistes and skiing generally is therefore particularly suited towards intermediate skiers although there are some good beginner slopes and challenges black and off-piste too.
007 James Bond fans will certainly not forget or want to therefore miss visiting the Schilthorn revolving lift before skiing down to Murren below, advisably by the piste this time we hasten to add.
Beginners will love the nursery slopes and tuition that takes place just above the town and the excellent ski instruction that is provided too.
The Ski Resort of Wengen
Being one of the first ski resorts in the world that tourists visited, the town itself is steeped in history and the village itself is both charming, car free and attractive. A firm favourite with British skiers, it is a very family friendly resort.
The scenerWengen is located on the mountainside above the Lauterbrunnen valley and can be reached by a cog railway with stunning views of the Jungfrau, Eiger and Monch mountains. Everything in Wengen is just a 5-10 minute walk or less with most of the hotels virtually ski in. This is a lovely family ski resort where you can let the kids roam about. The nursery slopes and kindergarten are right next to the main cable car. Easy to reach by the excellent rail network from the airports which can include checking your luggage in at the airport and the hotels pick up from the train station.
Bristish skiers may wish to continue the tradition of Curling. Another activity that has continued for over 100 years with the Wengen Curling Club being founded in 1911.
